Escalator common faults and elimination methods

1. Escalator steps failure
The steps are the standing places for passengers to take the escalator and are also a continuously operating component. Due to environmental conditions, human factors, the machine itself and other reasons. The main faults include: the escalator combs are broken; the main shaft hole of the bracket is broken; the bracket cover is broken; the main wheel is degummed. Troubleshoot the step fault: replace the steps; replace the bracket; replace the bracket cover; replace the main wheel; replace the entire step, Sanjin has stock of OTIS, KONE, Schindler, Thyssenkrupp, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, BLT, Sigma steps and combs for replacement.
2. Traction chain failure
The traction chain is the largest force-bearing component of the escalator. Due to long-term operation, the wear is correspondingly serious. The main faults include: failure of the lubrication system; severe wear of the traction chain; and severe elongation of the traction chain. Traction chain troubleshooting method: replace the traction chain; adjust the tensioning device of the traction chain; remove the dust of the traction chain.
3. Failure of the drive unit
The main faults include: abnormal sound of the drive unit; the temperature rise of the drive unit is too fast.

OTIS elevator upgrade underway at IOWA county offices

A US$1.2-million modernization by Otis is underway at the Scott County Administrative Center in Davenport, Iowa, the Quad-City Times reports. It involves two elevators at the center, which houses offices, and two at the courthouse. Offices that are inaccessible have been relocated until the work is complete in late January or early February 2019. Courthouse elevator work is expected to be complete by June 2019. The maintenance coordinator for the county’s Facility & Support Department said the project includes the units’ inner workings, and added, “Our service calls have gone up in past years, but the bigger motivating factor was being in compliance with 2020 [elevator] code changes.”

2018 China's top ten elevator brands list


As an important part of infrastructure supporting projects, elevators are closely related to the development of national economy, especially real estate, and the improvement of people's quality of life. 2018 China Elevator 10 selected by the Asian Elevator Federation. The big brand rankings are coming out.
First place: Otis Elevator (OTIS)

Safety secure machine on Elevator, part two of three. -Safety Gear

Last time we introduced the brakes in the safety components of the elevator, we will explain the explanation of the safety gear today.


In some special cases, the brakes are not tight and cause the car to slip. (Note that it is a slippery car. Because there is a counterweight, in general, the weight of the counterweight is the weight of the car plus half the weight of the elevator's rated load, so it is impossible. Free fall, it is only possible to slip.)



Here is a story about a pothole that has been heard before and caused the brakes to be tight. Some customers have chosen a small cottage to maintain the elevator. The maintenance personnel have no maintenance experience and are added inside the brake arm of the traction machine. A lot of oil, finished saying also, see how good our service attitude, receiving you so low prices to add so much oil to you, you see their original price is more expensive than ours, the brake arm does not give you fuel. The customer is right, then I will find you later!



Excuse me, can you add fuel to the brake arm? ? ? When I am going to maintain the car, if the staff tells you to add some oil to the brake pads, what do you think?



Of course, it is not just this possibility. Here is just an example of some situations that may cause the brakes to be tight and need to cause safety gear.


This is a photo of a safety gear, the operation principle of the specific safety gear. Since the space is not unfolded, there is no need to understand it. I will introduce the action flow of the safety gear here, and everyone can understand it.



Since the brake is not tight, the elevator will slip. Due to the acceleration, the elevator will definitely go faster and faster. When it reaches 115% of the rated speed, there will be a speed detecting component (speed limiter) in the machine room that will lock immediately. Death causes the safety gear mounted under the car to move and quickly clamp the rail. Moreover, the safety gear is a one-way locked structure, and when it moves, the elevator will be tighter as it goes down.

Elevator Got Problem? You May Need to Check the Encoder Throughly!

Encoder is one of the import part during an elevator's operation. When your elevator got problem, have you checked throughly about it's encoder? In this news, we will show two real examples about the problems that cuased by encoders:



  Case Study #1:
  There is a GPS-II Elevator that used to stuttering when levelling to floors. The maintenance checked again and again, but still cannot find the cause. Then one technician found out the the encoder's 9 opto-electronic holes were sealed off by dust. After clean up encoder, the elevator's operation finally back to normal.
  Case Study #2:
  One VVVF Elevator suddenly stopped during it's operation, then it back to normal after it's automatic leveling. During checking, the maintenance team find that the problem was not cuased by braking circuit, safety circuit or door lock circuit, but cause by encoder: the encoder was badly frayed. The encoder's problem caused a signal severance during elevator operation.
  After the news, here we will intruduce a simple way to check elevator's encoder:
  It is because encoder, the mian board, inverter and motor can compete a closed-loop system, encoder's problem will have influence to motor's operation. Thus, when you have suspicion to encoder, try to cut off the encoder from the closed-loop system, if the motor can still work normally, then the problem will be from encoder. Otherwise, need to check with other parts to find the problem.
